Daily Data Refresh
- Starting March 5, the data in Web of Science Research Intelligence will be refreshed daily. This means you will have up-to-date information when viewing data in Web of Science Research Intelligence – organization and researcher data, metrics, reports, and more. In addition, any data corrections – once approved and processed – will be reflected within a day, rather than within a month. Emerging Topics will continue to be updated monthly.
- Note that when viewing a saved Assistant chat, the data shown is from the day the chat was created. Clicking on links in the chat, for example to view all relevant funding opportunities, will show the most up-to-date data.
- Web of Science and Web of Science Research Intelligence acquire daily updates from the same source, but there can be slight differences in delivery between the two. This means you may see changes in one product before the other, with up to a 4-hour difference.
- InCites will continue to update monthly, therefore the data displayed in Web of Science Research Intelligence and InCites will not match.
-
Single Sign‑On (SSO)
- Single sign-on is now supported for account creation and login, allowing users to log in and authenticate seamlessly via their institutional credentials.
- To enable SSO access, an admin must first submit a request here.
- SSO is supported for institutions whose authentication systems provide an email address as part of the sign‑in response. Some institutions use other formats for identifying users, and these cases are not supported yet. We will support additional unique user identifier formats in a future release.
Societal Impact Report
1. Updated Societal Impact Profile
- The Societal Impact Profile is designed to help you quickly see patterns of strength and weakness across societal facets and the balance between Signals of Potential Impact and Signals of Observed Impact.
- The intent of the Societal Impact Profile is directional insight, not exact magnitude.
- We updated the chart styling while keeping the same underlying societal impact data:
- The chart now uses bars with soft, transparent edges instead of line traces to emphasize pattern over precision.
- We removed the rating scores per societal facet to support a more nuanced interpretation.
-
Why we’re making these changes:
- Avoid false precision: The chart is designed to show patterns and relative strengths/weaknesses, not exact differences between facets or institutions.
- More responsible reporting: Removing ratings at the societal facet level helps avoid unintended use of the chart as a ranking or Top X% tool.
-
How to interpret the new chart:
- Use it to understand where signals of observed impact are relatively stronger rather than weaker across facets and how they compare to signals of potential impact.
-
For example, you might see a pattern suggesting stronger signals of observed impact in Legal & Governance, Political & Policy, and Human Capital relative to Medical, Economic, and Social & Cultural, and lower still in Technological and Environmental. You may also see that signals of observed impacts appear stronger than signals of potential impacts overall.
2. Indicator ratings removed temporarily
- Indicator-level ratings (for example, “Top X%” for the indicators “Relevance to societal needs”, “Citations by patents”) are temporarily removed.
- We will re-introduce indicator-level ratings in future versions along with support for:
- Size-dependent (volume-aware) ratings, in addition to today’s size-normalized approach, and
- Ratings based on a set of institutions by country, region, and peer group
3. UN SDG treemap removed
We removed the SDG treemap (nested rectangles) that displayed the number of publications by UN SDG. You can still access the same SDG publication counts under Relevance (Signals of Potential Impact → Relevance to Societal Needs), where they’re presented with more context. In that view, you can explore publication counts by UN SDG over time (by year) and filter by societal facet.
4. Clearer labels and supporting text
We updated indicator labels and supporting text across the report to make each indicator’s meaning clearer.

Projects
You can now create Projects - customizable sets of research items. These can reflect a project or program in which your institution is involved, or any user-defined subset you want to analyze, and can include people involved in the project, inputs to the project like grants, and project outputs like publications and patents. Projects will soon be available for use in Societal Impact reporting and in the Research Intelligence s, users will be able to edit projects and share projects with other users at their organization.
Projects documentation is available here.
Known Issues – will be fixed in an upcoming release
- When uploading a file with hundreds or thousands of IDs, newly added items might not appear immediately on the details page. Refreshing the page will display the updated list.
- If there are dozens of items that failed to upload, the tool tip displaying their IDs does not adjust to the screen size, and you may need to scroll down to view all content.
- If validation of the uploaded file fails, the system incorrectly displays the error message “Try again later”. Ensure the file meets the requirements and try again.

Research Topics Feedback
To help improve the coverage and accuracy of our Research Topics, we added a new feedback field where you can suggest topics that are currently missing.
You can find this option under Expert Finder → Search by Research Topics.
Note: The feedback field is available only for users who have accepted cookies.
Coming Soon
Research Intelligence Assistant
- New version of the Impact Evaluation agent with enhanced query transparency. We are updating the Search Strategy panel to clarify how your request was understood and translated into an analysis. This section will highlight key phrases from your question, how they were interpreted (for example as filters, metrics or sorting criteria), and what they were matched to in our data (for example the specific organization, subject category or metric). It will highlight any parts of your question that could not be matched to available data and shows any defaults that were applied to complete the analysis. If multiple questions were submitted, the panel will indicate which question is being answered.
- Improved and more consistent sorting in the Impact Evaluation agent - We are refining how the agent chooses the sorting metric so results better reflect typical evaluation use cases. The agent now prefers more robust indicators, for example Documents in Top 10%, and more consistently applies a predictable sort direction. You can still explicitly request a different metric or sorting order in your question.
- Documents included in the analysis – You will be able to see a table with the documents included in the analysis. You will be able to sort based on the different column headers and go to Web of Science to see more information on this document set.
- Ability to analyze your Web of Science Research Intelligence Projects – you’ll be able to choose a Project you created and have the Impact Evaluation agent create an analysis based on the publications included in that Project. A Project can have additional entities such as researchers, organizations, grants and patents, however they will not yet be available for analysis.
