Societal Impact (Organization-level Report)

New content sources and indicators were added to the Organization-level Societal Impact Report.
We expanded the Organization-level Societal Impact Report to include additional content sources and indicators that capture institutional outputs beyond traditional scholarly publications. These additions strengthen the report’s ability to surface evidence of knowledge transfer, and broader societal acknowledgement.

  • Clinical Trials: Part of the Transferability indicator group, Clinical Trials provide a signal of how institutional outputs or activities may contribute to addressing societal needs through translation into applied medical and health contexts.
  • Policy-Cited Publications: This indicator captures publications cited in policy documents created or used by policymakers. It provides evidence of knowledge transfer and the use of research in policy and its reference in decision-making environments.
  • News Mentions: News Mentions track references to researchers and their affiliated institutions in reputable media outlets. This offers a signal of broader societal acknowledgement beyond academic audiences.

Project-level Societal Impact Report

With the new societal impact project-level report, you can analyze a research project, a research program, research group, or any other area of focus.
A project is a user-defined custom set of research items, such as researchers, publications, grants, patents, and organizations. Learn more about projects here.
The project-level Societal Impact Report uses the same framework as the organization-level report, including Signals of Potential Impact and Signals of Observed Impact, ensuring consistency and responsible analyses.

Custom Reports

We introduced Custom Reporting, a new way to turn charts generated in the Research Intelligence Assistant into tailored reports.
Custom Reporting brings together the ease-of-use of AI-assisted analysis and the flexibility of a full editing workspace. You can start with a natural-language question in the Impact Evaluation agent, generate a chart, and add it directly to a new or existing report. From there, you can combine multiple charts, shape a narrative across different areas of research assessment, and refine the analysis in the editing workspace to match your reporting needs.

To get started: In the Impact Agent, click Add to Report next to any generated chart.

Once a custom report is created, you can view and edit the report.

  • Viewing a Custom Report supports the following:
    • Dynamic report refresh: Custom reports data refreshes daily so users are working with the most current available data rather than with a fixed snapshot from the time the report chart is transferred from the agent.
    • Switch between chart and table view
    • Download aggregated and record-level data
    • Open supporting documents in Web of Science
  • Editing a Custom Report supports the following:
    • Resize charts and add new rows
    • Open charts in the Analysis Workbench for advanced editing. The Analysis Workbench is a unified workspace for chart editing, in-depth table analysis, and data exploration.
    • In the Analysis Workbench, users can:
      • Change chart settings, including chart type, title, the metrics shown on the chart, and the number of entities displayed.
      • View aggregated tables, which provides a structured view of the results for easier comparison, validation, and reporting.
        • Group results by entities and break data down by year
        • Add metrics to the table view
This allows users to enrich the analysis with additional research assessment context and compare results across multiple indicators.
      • Edit filters: refine the dataset to focus on the most relevant publications, entities, time periods, or subject areas.
      • View the underlying records: This supports transparency by allowing users to trace summary results back to the source-level evidence behind the analysis.

Exporting InCites B&A reports to Web of Science Research Intelligence

InCites B&A users can export their existing InCites reports to custom reports in Web of Science Research Intelligence. This allows to reuse existing analyses in Web of Science Research Intelligence without recreating reports from scratch. The export must be initiated by a user from their folders view in InCites. Because not all InCites functionality is yet available in Web of Science Research Intelligence, some charts may not be exportable, while others may only be exported partially. In the next two months, most of these missing capabilities will be added to custom reporting in Web of Science Research Intelligence, after which partially exported reports can be migrated again.

Managing Researcher and Organization Data

The Researcher Management and Organization Management features enable administrators to set up and manage researchers, departments and publication information for their organization. This ensures accuracy and current data across Clarivate products (Web of Science Research Intelligence, Web of Science and InCites). These features are available in the Web of Science Institutional Data Manager which can be accessed by Web of Science Research Intelligence administrators with the appropriate admin roles.
Administrators can update researcher and department names, update the department affiliation of the researcher, create and move departments to reflect the most up to date organizational structure, move publications from one researcher to another, and more.

Research Intelligence Assistant

  • Topic selection widget: in the Impact Evaluation agent, we introduced a new interactive way for users to browse and modify the research areas and schemas used in the agent’s response. In the question interpretation section, users can now select the browse other research areas button, which opens a pop-up displaying all available research areas and schemas, such as WoS Categories, Citation Topics, National schemas, etc. In the pop-up, users can use the search bar to browse research areas within a selected schema as well as browse and switch to other available research schemas. While users can still modify research area selections conversationally with the agent, this offers a more deterministic workflow that allows users to browse all available research areas.
    For more information see here

  • Improved topic selection logic and additional schemas available: We improved the way the assistant selects research schemas and specific topics. You can explicitly request to create an analysis based on additional schemas such as national research schemas. If none is requested the assistant selects the best match based on the user’s question.

Saved Items - Projects

  • We added new actions to help you better manage your projects:

    • Share – Share a project with colleagues in your institution
    • Edit – Update project details
    • Delete – Remove a project
    • Delete items in the projects – Remove individual entities from a project

For more details, see the full documentation here.

  • We added a new export option from Web of Science within the All Databases search scope.
You can search and filter Web of Science search results by the document types you want to load into the project in Web of Science Research Intelligence.
From the Export menu, select Web of Science Research Intelligence.
The exported file is then ready to be uploaded to your project.

Organizations and Researchers

Expert Finder – new country filter

We added a new filter to the Expert Finder search results that allows you to narrow the results to researchers in specific countries.

Fixes

Research Intelligence Assistant

We fixed several accuracy issues where filters were not recognized correctly, or filter values were resolved incorrectly.
We also addressed issues that caused the assistant to pause or not provide a full response. Overall, we significantly improved stability ensuring the assistants will provide reliable and consistent responses.

Coming Soon

Manage Researcher Publications

Administrators with Researcher Admin role will be able to manage a researcher’s publication list to ensure the accuracy of the researcher profile and to improve the organizational data quality for reporting and discovery. Publications can be removed or added by identifier or from another profile in the institution. Duplicate profiles can be merged by moving all publications from one of the profiles to the other.

User Management

User Admins can now grant access to Web of Science Research Intelligence to multiple users at once by uploading a CSV file with user emails and names, instead of adding users individually. This enables faster and more efficient user management.
The feature is available under Admin → User Management and is accessible only to User Admins.
